ANCA test (p-ANCA, c-ANCA, MPO and PR3) in Bhubaneswar

Urgent: If vasculitis is suspected with breathlessness, coughing blood, or rapidly worsening kidney function, go to hospital immediately. Do not wait for a test result.

What the test measures

Antibodies against proteins in white blood cells (neutrophils). PR3 antibodies are typically linked with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA); MPO antibodies with microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA).

When your doctor may order it

  • Unexplained kidney problems with blood or protein in the urine
  • Persistent sinus or ear problems, nosebleeds, or lung nodules
  • Rash, nerve symptoms or fever suggesting vasculitis

Understanding the result

A positive MPO or PR3 result with matching symptoms strongly supports ANCA-associated vasculitis. ANCA can occasionally be positive in other conditions or with some medicines, so the result is interpreted by a specialist.

This page gives general information. Your result must be interpreted by your doctor together with your symptoms and examination.
