TB test before biologics (IGRA) in Bhubaneswar

Before starting biologic medicines (such as TNF inhibitors) or other strong immune-suppressing treatment, doctors check for hidden (latent) tuberculosis. Immunix Labs performs the IGRA (interferon-gamma release assay) blood test for this.

What the test measures

Whether your immune cells react to TB proteins, which shows past exposure to TB, including latent TB that causes no symptoms.

When your doctor may order it

  • Before starting a biologic or JAK inhibitor
  • Before high-dose or long-term immune-suppressing treatment
  • As advised by your rheumatologist during treatment

Understanding the result

A positive IGRA suggests TB infection at some point and usually means preventive TB treatment before or alongside the biologic. It does not distinguish active from latent TB, so your doctor may add a chest X-ray and other checks.

This page gives general information. Your result must be interpreted by your doctor together with your symptoms and examination.
