Anti-dsDNA antibody test in Bhubaneswar

Anti-dsDNA (anti-double-stranded DNA) antibodies are highly specific for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The test supports the diagnosis and, together with complement C3/C4, helps track lupus activity, particularly kidney involvement.

What the test measures

The level of antibodies directed against double-stranded DNA in the blood.

When your doctor may order it

  • A positive ANA with symptoms that suggest lupus
  • Monitoring people already diagnosed with lupus, especially lupus nephritis
  • Checking response to treatment

Understanding the result

A positive anti-dsDNA strongly supports lupus. Rising levels with falling C3/C4 can signal a flare. A negative result does not rule lupus out, as many people with lupus never have these antibodies.

This page gives general information. Your result must be interpreted by your doctor together with your symptoms and examination.
