Antiphospholipid antibody tests (APLA) in Bhubaneswar
What the test measures
Anticardiolipin and anti-β2 glycoprotein I antibodies (IgG and IgM), and lupus anticoagulant, a clotting test.
When your doctor may order it
- A blood clot in a vein or artery without a clear cause, especially at a young age
- Recurrent miscarriage or pregnancy complications
- Lupus or another autoimmune disease
Understanding the result
Antiphospholipid syndrome is diagnosed only when antibodies are persistently positive on two tests at least 12 weeks apart, together with a clot or pregnancy complication. Blood thinners can affect the lupus anticoagulant result, so tell us about all your medicines.
This page gives general information. Your result must be interpreted by your doctor together with your symptoms and examination.
